Introducing Shoebox From Ancestry – A Scanner in Your Pocket

We’re excited to introduce Shoebox from Ancestry – a mobile scanner that allows you to upload photos directly to your family tree on Ancestry.com.au. There has never been a simpler, faster, and more beautiful way to scan your old photos.

Shoebox puts a powerful photo-scanner in your pocket. Just take a picture of an old paper photo with your iPhone or Android camera, and our edge detection and perspective-correction technology will make sure that your scans turn out beautifully.

You can now use your Ancestry.com.au credentials to log into Shoebox. You can also sign up for a free account through the app.

Tag family members

Our face detection tells you when it spots a person so you can tag them in your photo. Tag people in your family trees and your photos will automatically upload to Ancestry.com.au.

    It is almost one year since I was given membership to Ancestry.com after personally doing my family tree over many years.
    I spent many hours entering my family information into the Ancestry “service”. However when I started to try and search this “service” I found it was almost non existant. I do not believe I have accessed one single record which I was searching for. My daughter discussed before purchase of the gift my interest in India Records in particular, yet after commencement date and much frustration I was told by Ancestry.com that they do not have access to the India Records, (which which I have sighted when I travelled to the UK). As such I frankly feel that not only was I “conned” but that I was “robbed” in that I have provided for free to Ancestry.com a good number of these records and photos from my personal research from the preceding 30 years. I feel that my daughters’ gift was also a ‘robbery’ from them in that they paid a lot to Ancestry.com for nothing.
    I would regard the getting of this APP as no more than the further theft of my family records by an organization I was ever so interested in , and misguidedly trusted. All complaints/requests I made have resulted in zero response until an honest person in the organization told me that India records were not available through this “service”.
