Delving into our family history is a captivating journey that unravels the mysteries of our past. It provides us with a profound sense of identity, connects us with our roots, and helps us understand the stories that shaped our present. The Auckland & Christchurch Family History Expos are a must-attend event for anyone intrigued by their family history.
With a multitude of speakers and experts in attendance, these two weekend-long events are set to offer a range of experiences for genealogy enthusiasts and veterans alike.
Auckland Libraries and the Genealogical Computing Group (an interest group of the NZ Society of Genealogists) proudly present a weekend-long event covering a wide range of topics on researching genealogy and family history.
The Auckland Family History Expo boasts a diverse program designed to cater to attendees at all levels of expertise. The event kicks off on Friday 11 August with an exclusive opening event that includes a variety of catering options, available at a nominal fee of $25 per person. This event provides an opportunity for attendees to connect with fellow enthusiasts and share their excitement for the weekend ahead.
Saturday 12 August and Sunday 13 August offer free entrance to all visitors. The expo will feature a wide range of activities, including free seminars, computer-based tutorials, ask-an-expert sessions, and research assistance. No booking is required for these sessions, allowing attendees to explore the event at their own pace. Bringing laptops is encouraged, as it will enable participants to fully engage with the workshops and tutorials.
One of the highlights of the Auckland Family History Expo is the roster of esteemed speakers. Notably, Ancestry’s Brad Argent will be sharing his expertise virtually via Zoom, offering valuable insights into genealogical research. Additionally, I am honoured to be speaking at the event, where I will delve into the importance of preserving family stories and also share some practical Ancestry tips. Local speakers from New Zealand will also be present, enriching the event with their extensive knowledge.
