We’re pleased to announce Ancestry.com.au has now launched the Enumerator Summary Books – the first set of records from the recently-acquired 1911 England and Wales Census.

In case you missed our earlier blog post, Ancestry.com, Inc, parent company of Ancestry.com.au, reached an agreement last October with The National Archives to acquire and publish online the 1911 England and Wales Census.

The Census Summary Books will help cross-track ancestors through other censuses, telephone books, military records and other records, during the early part of the 20th century.

The 1911 Census offers a detailed insight into how people lived in the years leading up the First World War, showing who lived where, with whom, their age at the time of the census, their place of birth and what they did for a living. It is also the largest and most recent census available to the public¹.

The complete set of 1911 Census record images will launch online at Ancestry.com.au in early 2011, followed by the indexes, which will be made available in sections throughout the remainder of 2011.

We are working hard to launch the complete 1911 Census, which is of utmost importance to our members and family historians alike, as quickly as possible. The staggered approach to making the 1911 Census available will ensure that all our members will be able to find their ancestors in the record images as soon as possible and in the indexes by the end of next year.
